Game description

Shinobi: The Art of Vengeance is the result of Sega’s efforts to revive one of its game series. The Shinobi series began as an action-platform fighting game for consoles in 1987. Let’s start with the story and basic premise: the protagonist, Joe Musashi, seeks to change any institution after his village is destroyed and its followers are turned to stone. He is determined to avenge them and their leader, Lord Ross, who is trying to rule the world.

Shinobi: The Art of Vengeance is a 2D platformer, like most games of its genre, but it offers some improvements. It has a less linear level design, which is better because it comes with a map for navigation. You will come across areas that are inaccessible due to locked doors, and you will have to find keys or buttons to open them. There are some areas that can only be accessed after gaining special powers, which we will discuss later. You can return to a previous level to discover its secrets. Most of the time, you will use a katana to defeat enemies, but you can also throw a kunai. There is no limit to the number of kunai, but you will find more as you level up.

You can perform basic combat moves, such as double-tapping the Y and X buttons to launch enemies into the air. Sometimes you need to destroy an enemy’s shield, which can damage enemies. As you progress through the game, you will unlock new combat moves and powers that instantly destroy an enemy’s shield by pressing the X button. These powers can be obtained by progressing through the story or, sometimes, by purchasing them from shops located in certain areas of each level.
